I am an artistic amalgamation that encompasses educator, composer, opera singer and pianist. As an opera singer, I performed roles with Seattle Opera, Sacramento Opera, Opera Idaho, Washington East Opera, Tacoma Opera, San Diego Opera Ensemble, and N.O.I.S.E. I also performed as a vocal soloist in concert engagements with the Seattle Choral Company, the Walla Walla Symphony, Washington East Opera, University Presbyterian Church (Seattle), the Bellingham Music Festival, the New Britain Symphony, the Seattle Bach Choir, and First Methodist Church (Seattle).
As a pianist I accompanied the Cascade Foothills Chorale for 5 years and also served as their vocal coach. In addition I have performed as a pianist in recording studios and recital engagements featuring my music as a composer. In 2015 I was composer of the year for the Washington State Music Teachers Association and was commissioned to write “Elemental” a work featuring piano and voice.
As a mentor and educator, I have been teaching both voice and piano out of my home studio for 20 years and have also taught voice classes at Pierce College in Puyallup.
When I am not making music, I raise and train dogs in a variety of dog sports. I also enjoy trail riding with my husband and our two horses that we trained together. While very unsuccessfully trying not to do too much, I also raise organic eggs and produce and occasional make my own jewelry.
My goal as an educator is to share my love and knowledge of music with others in a way that gives them a foundation to enjoy and participate in music in whatever capacity they wish.
As a music mentor I teach piano lessons using the classically based Robert Pace Piano method. This method teaches students not just about the piano, but about music in general. Knowledge gained from the Pace Piano method can be very advantageously translated into any musical discipline. It also encourages students to explore their own musical creativity as they learn to write and play their own music.
As a voice teacher, I teach lessons that focus on finding the individual student’s own unique sound. My focus is on natural tone production that has health and longevity for any style of singing. My background as a classical singer also makes me well versed as a music coach in musical and foreign language interpretation.
